monuments #3: matteo imbruno and jacob lekkerkerker

October 10, 2020

Monuments is a concert series starring the Vater-Müller organ. A moment on Saturday evening when time stands still for an hour, while history sounds in the grand acoustics of the Oude Kerk. Tonight the organ will be played by two musicians who know the instrument like no other: Matteo Imbruno and Jacob Lekkerkerker, both organist-titulars of the Oude Kerk. The programme starts with music that could be heard here in the time of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Holland’s most famous composer and organist of the Oude Kerk. These compositions from the fifteenth and sixteenth century are played on the Transept Organ. After that, all the colours of the Vater-Müller organ will sound: in compositions by Nicolaus Bruhns and Johann Adam Reincken played by Matteo Imbruno, and during an improvisation by Jacob Lekkerkerker.
