Friday 22 and Saturday 23 September, the joint closing and preview of the multi-year collective project It's OK... commoning uncertainties, an initiative by artist Jeanne van Heeswijk, will take place in the Oude Kerk. These days, makers, participants and audience come together to share experiences, processes, observations, outcomes, desires and thoughts that the multi-year programme of It's OK... has brought forward.
Programme 22 September
Friday, September 22, from 10.00 am, the gathering THE MOON AND ALL ITS SHADOWS will take place, in which we will use various contributors to think together about continuing and sustaining common practices in times of structural uncertainties.
This day features contributions from the It's OK... programme, but also approaches these questions from other contexts. With contributions from Isshaq Albarbary, Ola Hassanain, Joy Mariama Smith, Lileo, SNAP, Yazan Khalili, a workshop by Noureddine Ezarraf, and the film Landless Moroccans by Soraya El Kahlaoui.
Programma 23 september
On Saturday, September 23, from 2.30 pm, we will close with It's OK.... Collective Sharing, a festive gathering where we ring the bells of the Oude Kerk, make food and share experiences. With contributions from the various circles and Ciro Goudsmit, Joy Mariama Smith, Gijs Stork, from Isshaq Albarbary, Ola Hassanain, ROTS, Alejandra Ortiz and many others. Closing music performance by Bint Mbareh.
Organised in collaboration with initiatives QANAT/LE 18 (Morocco) and the ungovernable (South Africa), the programme is also the start of the research project The Shadow of the Moon, which focuses on sharing tactics, strategies and deep-rooted histories that can serve as libraries or toolsets for how to approach these uncertain times and the problems we are called to respond to.
Practical Information
The programme is free with a valid Oude Kerk entrance ticket. Tickets are available here and at the box office.
About It's OK... commoning uncertainties
Over the past three months, more than a hundred local residents, artists, activists, united in 'circles of experience', organised several weekly public gatherings in the Oude Kerk around contemporary uncertainties and urgencies. In several meetings, questions were raised about how community spirit can contribute to a more resilient social fabric. During the festive finale on 22 and 23 September, we will collectively learn from-and contribute to-the deep work and explorations done during the It's OK... programme. It's OK... commoning uncertainties runs until 24 September 2023. Read more about the art manifestation and the programme here.
