Please note: Silence is a series of morning concerts. The performance begins at 8 o'clock in the morning.
In this edition of Silence Meredith Monk's renowned Piano Songs will resonate. Monk crafted the cycle based on previously composed vocal music. The duet will be performed by the young, talented pianists Gianmarco Moneti and Alessandra di Gennaro. Monk is particularly acclaimed as a composer of groundbreaking vocal music and for her unique approach to the human voice. Over more than 50 years, she has explored the voice as a distinct instrument. Before delving into composing music for the voice, Monk, as a music student, penned short piano studies inspired by examples from renowned composers such as Mompou, Satie, and Bartók. Directness, purity, asymmetry, and, above all, transparency are crucial elements in her piano compositions.
