For this edition of Silence, composer Ariadne Randall and performer Nyx Ferrand present a new piece for voice, modular synthesizer, and the organs of the Oude Kerk. Known for her cross-genre approach, Randall draws from Zen kōans, digital culture, medieval forms and experimental music. This collaborative performance blends text and composed and improvised elements to consider the legacy of transgender elders and predecessors across time.

About Ariadne Randall

Ariadne Randall is an American artist, composer, and author based in Vienna. In her work, she builds worlds through transmedial storytelling. Through strategies of material depth and formal juxtaposition, she creates spaces for imagination in sound, language, and image. She holds degrees in classical composition and contemporary art from UCLA and Bard MFA. Her works have been seen and heard in various places — from Lincoln Center and a recent song cycle for the Volksoper Vienna to countless basements. Her Reverse Cowgirl Quartet (with McKenzie Wark) rides her gender transition toward larger questions of identity and becoming. Her debut album as a transgender woman was released in 2024 on Oxtail Recordings to critical acclaim. She is represented by Galerie Peter Gaugy (Brussels/Vienna).

About Nyx Ferrand

Nyx Ferrand is an artist, performer, and activist currently studying comparative literature in Vienna. Her work addresses intersectional queer feminism and her experiences as an Afro-European, gender-non-conforming person. She has been a professional voice actress and model since childhood, and has styled and directed international fashion shoots and runway shows in Paris, Vienna, and London Fashion Week. She has performed in public spaces and in the underground Viennese club and rave scene, including at the Literaturhaus Graz; designed costumes for brut Wien; and co-organizes Slutwalk Vienna.

About Silence
Silence is a series of morning concerts. On the first Friday of every month, as the city awakens, musicians explore the centuries-old acoustics of the Oude Kerk. At the heart of the Silence series is contemporary music, where acoustic, digital, and electronic sounds merge. Inspired by Sweelinck’s walking concerts centuries ago, the audience is invited to experience the music while moving through the church’s historic architecture.
