The Oude Kerk will be closed from 12 to 16 May and from 19 to 23 May due to the installation of the exhibition To Breathe – Mokum by Kimsooja.
Kimsooja at the Oude Kerk (24 May – 9 November)
South Korean artist Kimsooja (Daegu, 1957) is creating a new series of her iconic textile bundles (bottari) especially for the Oude Kerk. These are inspired by the colourful Korean wrapping cloths traditionally used to carry people’s most precious belongings during their journeys. The bundles will be filled with clothing from the many diverse communities that make up Amsterdam. In addition, she will cover the more than 44,000 panes of the church’s towering windows with transparent film, transforming sunlight into a sea of rainbow colours. To Breathe – Mokum offers a meditative experience that invites reflection on themes of uprooting and coming home, and on what we carry with us and leave behind. Read more about the exhibition here.
