How is stained glass made?

Stained glass is a traditional craft in which pieces of coloured glass are joined together to create a pattern or design. The process begins with a carefully planned design, followed by precisely cutting the glass pieces to size. Next, the edges are smoothed to ensure a perfect fit. In the traditional method, the glass pieces are set into lead strips (the ‘lead’) and soldered together. Another technique uses copper foil, which is wrapped around the edges of each piece before soldering. Finally, the work is carefully finished and patinated for a beautiful, long-lasting result.
