sail 2015: sarah cameron sunde

August 19, 2015 – August 23, 2015

In memory of water. For her project 36.5 – A durational performance with the sea New York artist Sarah Cameron Sunde stood in the North Sea by Katwijk aan Zee during a complete tidal cycle to experience the waters ebb and flow, the wind and sea current. In doing so Sarah draws our attention to the physical, political and mythical significance of water. The performance was filmed by Jonas White and will be on view in the Oude Kerk during SAIL 2015. The video creates a striking contrast with the maritime spectacle of the tall ships calling at Amsterdam’s harbour, with the various references in the Oude Kerk, as former harbour church, placing them in historical perspective. During SAIL 2015 episodes of this work by Sarah Cameron will also be on view in De Appel Arts Center, Pakhuis de Zwijger and het Marineterrein.
