Nicolás Jaar will be present 3 x 3 hours in the Oude Kerk on 12 May. During that time he makes new work and uses fragments from earlier work that was composed during his artist-in-residency here. For three blocks of three hours he uses the newly restored Vater-Müller organ, the transept organ, the acoustic resonance of the building and electronics. Music in deep dialogue with the gothic space of the Oude Kerk. Nicolás Jaar’s improvisations sessions sounds in the early morning of 12 May, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM, in the afternoon from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and in the late evening from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM. James McVinnie plays the organ recital in the evening. This famous young organist is the former organist of Westminster Abbey in London and collaborates with some of the world’s leading composers, producers and artists. For example, Nico Muhly, Valgeir Sigurðsson and artist Martin Creed wrote compositions for him. On 12 May McVinnie will perform music by Bach and Philip Glass, among others.

At 12 o’clock the matinee concert sounds with Leo van Doeselaar, organist of Het Concertgebouw. Van Doeselaar gives concerts worldwide, and collaborates with the leading classical orchestras, conductors and musicians of our time. During the matinee concert on 12 May you can enjoy music from Vivaldi, an arrangement by Bach, and a large organ fantasy by Mozart.

On Sunday 12 May you can enjoy a special live concert by Philip Glass in the Oude Kerk. Glass plays the Vater-Müller organ and brings The Building from the opera Einstein on the Beach, in collaboration with the Artvark Saxophone Quartet. In addition, other parts from Einstein on the Beach sound, with the Nederlands Kamerkoor conducted by James McVinnie, speaking voice Claron McFadden. the American composer Mad Rush plays the solo in a special arrangement for organ.
