This nineteenth-century painting by Johannes Bosboom (1817-1891) shows the Oude Kerk’s interior with a view of the organ in the northern side aisle. Beneath the organ stands a group of orphans. The gallery in the background no longer exists. Bosboom was a painter and watercolourist who was famous for his church interiors, especially for how he captured the incidence of light. His signature impressionistic touch is also evident in this painting.
